"Shared Ownership of Patents" Online Survey Please complete survey by December 18.
Christian Helmers, assistant professor, Santa Clara University in California, is currently working on an article for the Journal of Legal Studies (with colleagues at Bocconi University and the University of Basel) on the shared ownership of patents.
The key argument of the paper is that co-ownership of patents in the U.S. is problematic because co-owners of a patent can license it without the consent of the other co-owners. We argue that one of the consequences of this rule is that firms avoid co-patenting in the U.S., especially when they are close market competitors.
He has asked that SVIPLA circulate a 7-question online survey to provide qualitative information from practitioners in this area. You are welcome to contact Christian at chelmers@scu.edu.
