PROGRAM:
With continued rapid technological developments, employee mobility, growing uncertainty regarding patent protection, and the introduction of social media and cloud computing, the need to protect one’s trade secrets and trade secret issues are growing exponentially. In addition to understanding trade secret protection, companies need to be prepared for investigations and litigation involving trade secret across the world, but especially within the United States. In this presentation, we will discuss trade secrets in relation to restrictive covenants and non-compete agreements in the United States, including recent trends in litigation and the recently enacted Defend Trade Secrets Act.

PRESENTER:
Kurt A. Kappes, Managing Shareholder, Greenberg Traurig
Kurt has extensive experience counseling national and international clients in the areas of trade secrets, restrictive covenants, covenants not to compete, and employee mobility. He lectures frequently in this area, and has contributed to many articles and alerts. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of California, King Hall School of Law, where he has taught a course for several years in trade secrets and employee mobility. He graduated from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. The GT Trade Secret Practice is ranked among the top 20 firms nationally in the Legal 500 United States 2018 Guide. The Guide also recommends Kurt in the area of Trade Secrets (litigation and non-contentious matters).
